Earl Sweatshirt ‘Whoa’ – Video

Stand tall Earl Sweatshirt. His turn on Frank Ocean’s ‘Super Rich Kids‘ helped create one of the best R&B jams of recent times, and despite being yet to make it out of his teens he’s had a meltdown and an imposed exile in the pacific. And he’s dope.

His latest album Doris is out due shortly and this ‘Whoa’ track isn’t a riff on Black Rob’s classic, but it is a parody of all those flashy hip-hop vids. And he’s going toe to toe with Tyler on it lyrically as well. OFWGKTA deliver once again.

Studio Studio Studio

So these three are working together. No biggie.

Font 2012-13 Playlist

Last month I mentioned I was compiling a playlist for the Font and here is the final edit. There’s 150 tracks of pure aural goodness on the go, the thinking the same as last year in that it’s designed with a student friendly bar in mind. There’s a definite influence from Breaking Bad prevalent – as I’ve been a late comer to the series and completely engrossed by the music involved. Alongside that there’s everything from bass heavy hip-hop from Tyga and The Pack over to music raided from some of my favourite albums of the year so far – Jessie Ware, Frank Ocean, Justin Martin and Nas.

It’s also a bit more ‘current’ – the last one was much closer to the classic records that had been part of my DJ sets over the years whereas this is definitely more of a home listening experience with some slabs of bass music form Bondax, Disclosure and Last Japan all freshening up the student indie disco vibe, and things get a bit noisy towards the end as well. It’s tailored to fit a full day in the bar, so it’s a bit weighty to get stuck into but go for it anyway. Or just rock up to the gaffe and experience it in the environ with a pint of Liverpool Organic for yourself.

Stevie Wonder apologizes for Frank Ocean comments to MTV

“I’m sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood,” the singer said in the statement. “No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music. Clearly, love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry and more unity, peace and understanding. Period.”

Stevie wasn’t being out and out homophobic when he said what he said to the Guardian; you could quite easily make a case that he was saying sexuality is far from a linear definition – but confused probably wasn’t the right word to use. Anyway Stevie being Stevie and the issue gaining one or two column inches in that big ol’ gorgeous country over the pond he delivered the above statement to MTV. Nite Jewel & Nicholas Krgovich cover Thinking About You

This great Nite Jewel cover is now available for download, courtesy of RCRDLBL.

Nite Jewel covers Frank Ocean’s ‘Thinking About You

Here’s hoping this makes it to the production board, because this is a gorgeous cover.

Frank Ocean – Thinkin Bout You (Lonsdale Boys Club Remix)

The bravest man in music get’s touched up by Lonsdale Boys Club, giving the space age crooner’s ‘Think bout You’ a lovely bumping house/garage swing. Think late nineties pop club jams, and then some.

Download: Frank Ocean – Pyramids

Odd Future Talisman and Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborator Frank Ocean has thrown out a free download. ‘Pyramids’ locks in at just under ten minutes, and is definitely on the epic tip. It changes direction a good three or four times during the beat, features some guitar licks, scatter-shot drums and some stadium shaking synths and pulsating electronics that give it a thoroughly ambiguous feel. It does go on a bit like (hence him giving it away) but nevertheless it is a great track, imagine Diplo and Usher ditched the falsetto and dragged ‘Climax’ out a bit longer and your kind of there. And it’s free mutherfuckers!
