Bambook and Netzell ft Cari Golden ‘What’s the Use’ – review on Pulse

Bambook & Netzell ft Cari Golden - What's The Use

“Rolling effortlessly, it’s juxtaposition of the track’s incessant charm and immediacy with Golden’s spoken word delivery is the key to its success, particularly the similarity her delivery draws with the infamous stalker on Lil Louis’ timeless ‘I called You’. It’s not hard to see why Maceo Plex built many of his stadium slaying sets of last year around it.”

Circus recordings continues a fine run of form with a bamboozler from Bambook and Netzell, Cari Golden delivering a great spoken word vocal. The clubnight has a couple of crackers lined up for Easter Weekend as well, Good Friday at Egg London and then the Camp & Furnace up here in Liverpool for Easter Sunday.

And this recent set from Yousef at Circus is something of an instant classic.

GOA @ Fabrik, Madrid

I do love a fun filled European rave extravaganza, and this Sunday I have quite the party lined up for me in Madrid. Home of arguably the most amazing ice cannon in the world, I’m told Fabrik is up there with the finest clubs on the planet and naturally I’m exceedingly excited about what is in store for me. Delve onto their Facebook page to get the green eyed monster in you frothing.

The below vid isn’t the greatest in quality but does give you an insight into the impressive cannon!!! Full review to follow next week on one of the sites I write for…

Odd Parents & Maceo Plex ‘Get Enough’ Review on DT

“It’s formulaic, but when that formula delivers the kind of incessant shuffling manifesto that has characterised the Spaniard’s meteoric rise it’s certainly nothing to baulk at.”

Maceo Plex returns with ODD Parents to deliver an engaging house cut… hit the quote for the full review. Purchase link here.

Wasted Heroes & Circus X

There’s an oft forgotten role in clubland. Whilst we move to the sounds of DJs, crowd around in clubs, and give our money to the promoters wily enough to orchestrate it all for us, one role is crucial in garnering our attention in the first place – the graphic designer. One of those who has had a particularly dynamic role in clubland is Russell Reid, who is undergoing something of a furtive period right now. As the lead designer for Circus for nigh on the entirety of their ten years, he’s been responsible for iconic designs such as the following masterpiece:

Russ has a three day epic weekend rolling up for his wares and club involvement, with Circus turning ten with two shows In London and Liverpool and him hosting Space’s El Salon for the We Love closing party on Sunday 30th September. Featuring at the shows are the likes of Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Bicep (who headline El Salon at Space), Sascha Dive, Yousef (obviously) and Riva Starr, whilst a gluttony of artists have been pcitured wearing Russ’ eye catching Circus X merchandise in recent months. One of them being a rather well know grinning superstar who appears at the top of this page.

I’ll be posting more details in the upcoming days on some interviews with Russ as well as one or two places you can win some of his clobber. However until then head over to the Wasted Heroes website and the Circus X merchandise mini-site if you want to get your hands on the clothing sooner.

Head here for full details for Circus London with Yousef, Riva Starr, Sascha Dive and more.

The Liverpool counterpart with Sasha, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Yousef, Davide Squillace and Lewis Boardman is via this link.

Peep the below sampler for Yousef’s brand new album ‘A Product of Your Environment’.

WHP Announce line-ups tomorrow

Two weeks ago the ball started rolling for the WHP with the monstrous opening weekend announcements. They fill in the gaps tomorrow, with this video whetting the appetites.

I’ll be honest, I don’t normally subscribe the the open mouthed reactions line-ups get in clubland any more. Call me too long in the tooth, jaded, or just a miserable bellend, but to be honest they never really get me frothing at the mouth any more. The Warehouse Project just changed that.

Their opening weekend is beyond obscene. Friday kicks things off with a Rinse showcase which packs the likes of Katy B , Skream , Diplo, Zinc, Roska and Plastician into a bass music feast, but Saturday is just ridiculous for House and techno fans. Nicolas jaar playing live, Maya Jane Coles back to back with Heidi, Maceo Plex, Four Tet Dj Set, Seth troxler, Julio Bashmore, Bicep and fuckloads more in a ten hour assault on the senses.

Whatever your musical persuasuion, that weekend is HUGE. Beggars belief what the rest of the programme will include.

Maceo Plex VS. INXS

Man of the moment Maceo Plex has thrown up this edit of INXS. Killer acid line towards the end and enough of the vocal to breed familairty without straying too far from the Spaniards killer groove mentality. He is of course rocking Circus at the end of September as the Liverpool club turns ten. Beastly times.

Residents Rule – Ian Blevins

“If I had to pick one that changed how I looked at Djing and playing music it would be probably Theo Parrish one hazy morning at the Southport Weekender playing mid morning til close. Unbelievable music and fantastic programming. That for me is the most important part of playing records.”

My day job involves working with the delightful We Love… Space and part of that involves sourcing blog content. We’ve recently been doing a mixture of residents rule and Friends and Family posts, focusing on the unsung heroes of We Love (the regular residents) and the family that has been a part of everything they’ve done. North East jock Blevins was covered on this one; click the quote to see it in full glory.

And the announcements are due soon for their summer start. The first wave of artist are insane!

DJ Oz Mix

djoz – best of 2011 mix by Dj.Oz

It’s January, and although the winter has relatively speaking been pretty mild in Liverpool today it is bitingly cold, if gloriously sunny. So how nice that this mix should crop up in the office, of Pukka Up resident DJ Oz, dropping a collection of dreamy deep house straight from the Balearic dancefloors of 2011. Perked us up a right treat it did.
